Jean-Pierre Lehmann is Professor of International Political Economy at IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland and founder of The Evian Group @ IMD  - an international coalition of business, government and opinion leaders committed to an open, inclusive, equitable and sustainable global market economy in a rules-based multilateral framework.

Prior to joining IMD, Jean-Pierre had a distinguished career in academia, journalism and strategic consulting. He acts in various leading capacities in a number of public policy institutes and organisations.  He is also an advisor to governments and corporations and a frequent commentator in the international media. He has spent most of his professional life working on and in Asia. Since the 1990s he has also managed projects in Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, North and sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America.

He has published widely and is the author of several books and papers primarily dealing with globalisation, modern East Asian history, East Asia and international political economy.  His most recent book, co-edited with his son Fabrice, is Peace and Prosperity through World Trade – Achieving the 2019 Vision.

He obtained his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University, Washington DC, and his doctorate from Oxford University.
